Why is my regal tang hiding

Most blue tangs seem to keep ick for a while when first introduced, atleast wild ones do. They are offering aquacultured tangs now and for about 20 bucks more it's worth not having to deal with ick. I would get a cleaner shrimp or cleaner wrassse as you are likely not going to be able to easily get the fish out and even if you do a small QT will likely stress the fish further.

You can lower the salinity and raise the temp but more than likely the fish will get over it naturally within a month or so. Thats good to know. I actually recently got rid of my QT tank for that reason. Granted it was a small one, but its going to be a mini frag tank now. I will leave him to his devices then. But I told my dad already to keep feeding him the garlic soaked nori as well as pellets since he seems to enjoy both. He didn't know about the garlic thing. There are 2 cleaner shrimp in the tank but I have not seen them doing anything.

They keep chasing the clown to clean him though and he runs Sounds good, as far as the garlic it's a natural antioxidant. You may try to find a neon goby, I've been told they clean parasites as well as live longer than actual cleaner wrasse. Yea I heard that the neon gobys are also good to have a tank. I wanted a pair for my tank but I never got around to ordering them from my LFS. I guess I can put in an order for 2 pairs this week. He said he's going to wait a few weeks before trying to add a fish.

His question to me was should he try for another blue hippo tang or would a yellow tang be a safer bet? Does he have to worry about ich with the other fish? From what I have read if the fish are healthy they should be able to fight off the ich and it should be gone from the tank in about 6 weeks. Next time, you may want to get a larger tang, not in adult size but as it is.

Tangs that are only a few inches long can be much more difficult to acclimate than larger individuals. This is a good article on them:. I cant remember the cycle of ich, but if he waits a couple of months with no other fish showing the parasite, then it is probably safe to add another tang or whatever.. I don't get tangs just for this very reason You can post now and register later. Current Tank Info: 75 gallon, mixed reef, fuge. Originally Posted by Megatrev Jajajjajajaja lol don't be a hater!

It just looks odd besides the stress on the fish. My Royal Blue is doing fine in my long. When I first got him, he hid in the rocks. He still is there the entire time the lights are off!

He hides alot, but comes right back out now, and always comes up to the glass when my face is by it like a good pet fish! I got him form a fish expert has his own maintenance co. It was a 90 tall. I thought they were just getting slow in their age On a serious note the tang shouldn't he in that size tank. Baby or not, its way too small and with LR inside your tank you actually have less than 50 gallons. Also, I wouldn't add any tang to a 5 week old tank, I would wait atleast months. Tangs get sick very easily when stressed and you wanna have as stable as a tank as you can before adding them Even though your LR 'claims' to be curable in 4 weeks, it doesn't actually mean it is.

You mentioned your testing the water so that's good but there is no science to how fast a tank cycles. It can be as fast as 3 weeks, and I have heard it going past 6 weeks in some cases. David A. Crandall, M. Important that it must eat. No eat, no live. This principle apply to all fishes and whether they hide or not. In my tank all my fishes grab their food. Any fishes that can't grab enough food will not survive long because I can't afford to throw so much food for the weak fish.

The other fishes will eat more than they need. My filtration can only cope tat much. Should not be any issues , you check for nitrate level and white spot on the blue tang, it too much white spot.

Check if the yellow tang is distribute it too often. Sometimes I collect the seaweed from our local sea n feed my tangs. I choose those soft n fleshy green and brown types. Dont put all into tank at once else tangs will eat all in one day n pollute tank. Keep them in hospital tank n slowly put in some over a week. Tangs will love fresh seaweed.

You can get sea weed, they love them a lot it come in package form And tear to slice and dip on water till it sink in the water. My blue tang also don eat at first. Always hiding at e back of e rock. For first few day I have try to feed all kind of dry food i have and seaweed.

Same they dun eat cos they r stress. Slowly they will eat all kinds of food. You can post now and register later. If you have an account, sign in now to post with your account. Paste as plain text instead. Only 75 emoji are allowed. Display as a link instead.
