Why does my gateway laptop get so hot

If you're a bit weary about taking the back off, and you've checked that the plastic vents of the back are clear of dust, you could try going into the BIOS and checking the system settings, especially for the "shutdown" settings for motherboard, processor and graphics card components.

You may have the option to increase the threshold of one or all of them. But again,be cautious as this could cause further issues after prolonged use. If in doubt take it to a respected repair shop.

You said you tested the graphics card and saw the temp rise. I had one computer that was doing the same thing and it ended up dying. Then found there was a class action suit because the graphics card was faulty.

Have to agree with the others. Youtube to take it apart, and if you can take the backing off or some were you can see the fan move when you power it on. If the fan is not moving, than that is your issue. A 20 bucks fix at most and you can do it fairly easy on most models. This is were you learn to fix things on your own and reap the rewards. I wanna know if any of you might be able to help me figure out what's causing my Laptop to overheat to the point where it shuts off automatically.

I Miss my old Laptop and there would be nothing wrong with the New Laptop except for the fact that it has Vista and it's been giving me Problems with Vista issues. I really want my old laptop back cuz it was very reliable up til it started overheating. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Joined Jan 27, Messages , I'm not sure how easy the cpu fan is to get to and clean, but, I have a Toshiba laptop that had to be pretty much disassembled in order to clean it correctly. I took it into the shop, it hasn't overheated since being thoroughly cleaned. AcaCandy said:. You actually got to the cpu fan? My Toshiba laptop has 3 fans. Without knowing your model number, I just googled for a picture of a Gateway cpu fan.

There is no need to use an asterisk to get around a board censored word. Well, I am not that familiar with the inside of laptops, but, I would say that anything that was melted can't be a good sign. Why don't you call that number on that link and find out what it is?
